The World Test Championship Table is up and running.
It should be fascinating to see how the table develops over the next 20 months where 27 series and 71 Tests will be played by nine countries to determine the finalists for June 2021.
It is the best time to be a Test Cricketer and the one format you want to be playing over the next 20 months. It is the format that will attract the most interest in bilateral tours because never has there been this level of significance attached to each and every Test series with it eventually culminating in a definitive Test champion at the end of it all, following the completion of a “final” in mid 2021.
It appears participating in these two match Test series could actually be beneficial for teams and their standing on the league table with more points up for grabs during each Test should you finish up on the winning side as opposed to a longer series of four of five Tests where even if you win say 3-1 you will get less points than a team that won a two match series 2-0. Remember there are a maximum of 120 points available in each series divided by the number of Tests within that series to determine how much each Test win is worth.
It is going to be an interesting year and a half for the Test format with the introduction of this concept in an attempt to give bilateral series much needed meaning and context.
West Indies will shortly host India with 60 points up for grabs in each Test during that particular series.
