Asif Iqbal captained Pakistan in the 1975 and 1979 World Cup in England where they put up some impressive displays before West Indies ended their title hopes. He led Kent to the county championship title in 1977 and was also an integral part of the Kent side that won the county championship in 1970. He made his Test debut in 1964 and made his final Test appearance in 1980 in the country of his birth.

The Pakistan batting all rounder also captained the World XI during World Series Cricket in 1978-79 where he scored a century in a winning cause against the mighty West Indies. Asif Iqbal scored Test centuries at iconic cricket grounds such as the Kennington Oval in 1967 where he made 146 batting at number 9 and the SCG in 1977 where he scored an impressive Test century in Pakistan’s best Test win in Australia yet. In total Asif Iqbal scored 11 Test centuries and took 291 first class wickets in his professional cricketing career. The former national captain was renown for being a “man for a crisis” and is often remembered for being an electric runner between the wickets.
