Mark Coles served as the head coach of the Pakistan Women’s team after the 2017 Women’s World Cup through till deep into 2019. During his time as head coach he saw his side defeat New Zealand in an ODI, win an ODI series against West Indies in the UAE and tie an ODI series in South Africa.
Mark also was a domestic cricketer in New Zealand before taking up coaching. He joined Abdullah on the line from Brisbane in Australia to chat about his views and experiences regarding the Pakistan women’s side and also about the state of women’s cricket worldwide.
Topics of discussion include the recent decision in the ICC Women’s ODI Championship to split points for the unplayed India-Pakistan series, Sana Mir’s retirement and future plans, the disappointing results from the White Ferns in the previous 3 world tournaments, the Khan sisters and why their immense contribution to the development of women’s cricket in Pakistan in the late 90s and early 2000s isn’t given the recognition it deserves at the Pakistan Cricket Board level and we also touch on the exciting prospect of having women’s cricket in the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
