No1 Ranked ODI Team Due To Tour Pakistan in September

Number 1 ranked ODI team New Zealand will be visiting Pakistan for 3 World Cup Super League ODI fixtures and 3 ICC Twenty20 World Cup warm up bilateral T20Is in September.

Provided the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t in an alarming situation in Pakistan at the time, Pakistan’s Cricket Board are fully expecting to host Kane Williamson’s men for a limited overs tour.

New Zealand last toured Pakistan in 2003 for 5 ODIs. They therefore, would have never played a T20 international on Pakistani shores before, given the format wasn’t around internationally last time they toured Pakistan.

The last time Pakistan hosted New Zealand for a home bilateral engagement was in October, November and early December 2018 in the United Arab Emirates. The tour comprised of 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 3 Test Matches. Pakistan won the T20I series 3-0, whereas the ODIs were tied 1-1 after the deciding encounter was rained out, but it was New Zealand who emerged victorious in the Test Matches 2-1.

The tour of Pakistan would be the first time the Black Caps are in action in white ball cricket away from home since the emergence of the pandemic.

New Zealand are then expected to return to Pakistan before the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia for a Test series which will form part of the ICC World Test Championship second edition. 2002 was the last time New Zealand played a Test Match in Pakistan.

Pakistan won their last ODI appearance against New Zealand at the World Cup in Birmingham in England.
