The Pakistani left arm seamer will be making his first ever red ball appearance at the famous old ground on Thursday when Middlesex entertain Leicestershire in a division two county championship fixture.
Middlesex will go into that game having defeated Glamorgan away whereas Leicestershire suffered an innings defeat at the hands of Derbyshire.
Shaheen has never played a Test Match at Lord’s. He missed out on that opportunity when Pakistan toured England in the summer of 2020. Lord’s was originally due to host a Test against Pakistan that year, as the ground does against all visiting Test sides in an English summer. However, COVID-19 logistics meant that the whole series had to be staged at biosecure venues in Southampton and Manchester respectively where they had the facility of on-site hotels for player accommodation.
Nonetheless, Shaheen has played a couple of one day internationals at Lord’s, such as in 2019 during the World Cup against Bangladesh when he took six wickets. He also made a bilateral appearance here in 2021 when Pakistan toured England for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
However, for the first time in his four year long career since his international debut in April 2018 in Karachi against the West Indies will Shaheen be getting the chance to play a red ball fixture in London, albeit not an international one.
