Commentators for NZ Tri Nations Series

Pakistan and Bangladesh will play the opening fixture of the 2022-2023 home international summer in New Zealand on Friday in a triangular tournament with hosts New Zealand. It is the earliest ever start to an international home season in New Zealand and one suspects the weather will be incredibly challenging for the tourists. Nevertheless, it is valuable preparation for the upcoming ICC Twenty20 World Cup to be held in Australia which commences on 16th October.

This is the only cricket Pakistan men’s national team will play in New Zealand up until 2027 at the earliest so fans should cherish the opportunity to see Pakistan play on New Zealand shores again given the long gap that awaits after the completion of the triangular series, when it comes to seeing Pakistan national teams on New Zealand shores.

Nonetheless, Pakistan will host New Zealand for 15 international matches in their 2022-2023 home season. This includes 2 Tests, 8 ODIs and 5 T20Is. New Zealand will also tour Pakistan during the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle. Therefore, all future bilateral contests between the two nations till 2027 at the least will be staged in Pakistan.

But coming back to Friday, it will be the first time Babar Azam plays in New Zealand as Captain of Pakistan. He missed the previous tour due to injury, but was present in the country and accompanied the team in 2020-2021 when Pakistan were in New Zealand for 3 T20Is and 2 Tests.

Correction spotted on 29th Oct at 08:10: Pakistan will play 6 white ball fixtures in New Zealand at the start of 2025 in the 2023-2027 FTP which I failed to notice.
