Mickey Arthur pictured above at the Oval Cricket Ground in South London on Wednesday 8th May 2019. This was the scene of his Champions Trophy triumph with Pakistan two summers previously. But one Champions Trophy shouldn’t overshadow his unimpressive results as Pakistan Coach in bilateral Test and ODI Cricket. Pakistan lost home series in the UAE to Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Tests under him, were whitewashed 5-0 twice in bilateral ODIs once by New Zealand and once by Australia and failed to make the final of the 2018 Asia Cup and the semi finals of the 2019 Cricket World Cup too.
If bringing him back for one Champions Trophy success is worthy, then with that logic Saqlain also took Pakistan to a Twenty20 World Cup final in 2022 and helped Pakistan win a World Cup encounter for the first time against arch rivals India in the 2021 tournament which incidentally was his first game in charge as Pakistan’s Coach.
Pakistan have won 9 of their last 11 ODIs, have gone further than India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, 2022 T20 World Cup and also the 2022 Asia Cup. Why change things and bring back someone who never played international cricket, is already tied up with an English county that he isn’t willing to leave and who lost 17 out of 28 Tests as Pakistan Coach if Test Match results are the issue with Saqlain.
I say Pakistan have won 10 of their last 12 ODIs in the above audio. I intended to say 9 of their last 11. Please excuse.
