Pakistan to play a Test Match in Perth in 2023

Pakistan will play a Test Match in Perth after 19 years this December during their opening fixture of the Australian Test tour. This will be Pakistan’s first international match following their participation in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, a competition Pakistan will be trying to win again after 31 years later this year.

It will also be Pakistan’s first match at the new Perth stadium outside of T20 internationals. Pakistan played Zimbabwe and Netherlands in T20 internationals at the new Optus stadium during the 2022 ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Australia. They also played a bilateral T20 international at the venue in 2019. Pakistan have lost two of the three fixtures mentioned.

Pakistan were soundly beaten by 491 runs the last time they played a Test Match in Perth, albeit at the old WACA venue. The visitors conceded centuries to local boys Justin Langer and Damien Martyn in this fixture which was the opening affair of a three match series followed by Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, as will be the case here for Pakistan in their 2023-2024 visit. The other home Tests for Australia in their 2023-2024 home summer will be against the West Indies in Brisbane and Adelaide before Pat Cummins’s side will travel to New Zealand for their first Test series across the tasman since 2016, after an eight year gap.
