India will play Pakistan on 9th of June at the 2024 ICC Twenty20 World Cup in USA in what will be the biggest clash of the tournament as is often the norm in ICC competitions.
It will be the first international fixture between the two rivals in USA. Pakistan and India have previously played bilateral series in neighbouring Canada in the 1990s however. Canada will also be one of the participating nations in the forthcoming world event.
The twenty participating teams at the world finals next June were recently finalised following the completion of the regional qualifiers. Zimbabwe are the noticeable absentee, given their success in beating Pakistan at the 2022 tournament in Perth. The Chevrons won’t be at the big dance this time around with the likes of Uganda emerging successfully in the African regional qualifiers instead.
Pakistan defeated India in the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup in Dubai by 10 wickets. However, India emerged victorious in a last over thriller in the rematch in Melbourne a year later in what was a memorable spectacle.
The groups and fixtures for the landmark 2024 ICC Event will be announced shortly.
It will be a 55 match tournament with four groups of five followed by super eights and the standard semi finals and final.
India and Pakistan are all set to meet in the initial preliminary pools prior to the super eights on the second weekend of June.
The tournament will commence on 4th of June and conclude at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on the last day of June 2024.
