Ian Smith to Commentate on WTC Final 2025

Former New Zealand wicket keeper and popular cricket commentator Ian Smith will be returning to Lord’s and England for the first time since calling the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final to commentate in the ICC World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa at The Home of Cricket in mid June.

It will be the first time the Kiwi is commentating in a World Test Championship final and it will be the first time he is commentating in a Lord’s Test Match since May 2015 when New Zealand played out a thriller with them posting 500 in the first innings, but still ultimately losing the Test on the final afternoon to Alastair Cook’s side.

But more recently at Lord’s, Ian Smith commentated on a Trent Boult hattrick against Australia and the Super Over of the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final which was the last time there was an ICC Event at the revered English venue.

New Zealand would go on to win the inaugural ICC World Test Championship at the same venue two years later. However, Ian Smith didn’t make the trip due to the stringent quarantine measures in place for people returning to New Zealand at the time.
